Warminster, PA (April 13, 2022) — Seniors residing at Wesley Enhanced Living’s (WEL) Doylestown community are pouring their love into making dozens of teddy bears intended to comfort the many children who have been forced to flee their home in the Ukraine. Residents are also collecting items to craft care packages for the children and their families consisting of many scarce but necessary items.

In late April, the community members of WEL Doylestown will send the bears and care packages to the children and their families who are temporarily residing in a monastery located out of harm’s way, in another country. The community will continue to make bears and assemble care packages for as long as there is need.

Leading the way for this initiative is Christine Weyer, Activities Coordinator at WEL Doylestown who shares, “my sister-in-law is close friends with a nun who runs a monastery in Poland that is currently sheltering Ukrainian refugees. When the residents found out they thought we could use my connection to help out. They came up with the idea of the bears and care packages.”

In addition, WEL Doylestown staff and senior residents have raised over $2,000 in proceeds for Ukrainian relief efforts and are working to organize a benefit concert with the proceeds going to The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine. The date and details of that announcement will be forthcoming.
