For Henry, Wesley Enhanced Living Upper Moreland was just right. He had visited two other continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) prior—The first required too much walking and was quite expensive. The next one did not provide him with enough care or attention. But when he toured Upper Moreland, all the staff and residents said hello to him, and he felt right at home!

Henry, who is now 90 years young, has been in our Upper Moreland community for nine years. The first seven were spent in an Independent Living apartment. But when a surgery limited his mobility, he moved to a Personal Care Suite. Becoming a part of the Personal Care neighborhood within his community has allowed Henry to gain assistance with activities of daily living, like medication management, laundry, and housekeeping.

The transition to Personal Care meant a kitchenette instead of a kitchen; but then Henry gets three delicious, nutritious meals in his choice of dining rooms, so that wasn’t so bad! The food is so good, says Henry, that he stayed at the community for Thanksgiving dinner! And he has options: Dining will send his meal to him if he doesn’t feel up for leaving his room. Sometimes, he gets take-out from the Bistro, the casual dining eatery. But this particular day, Henry was looking forward to sitting down to a prime rib dinner in the dining room!

Henry describes his Personal Care digs as: “comfortable, roomy, and clean, with a fantastic view outside!” He gets plenty of attention, he adds, with staff always checking in on him regularly. This peace of mind, he says, makes it all worth it!

A typical day for Henry includes breakfast around 9 am. Then he decides if he’d like to go to an exercise class, see a movie in the movie theater, or play Bingo or cornhole. “Cornhole is my favorite,” he admits. “Even if you’re not that good at it, it’s still fun, because everyone has a good time together!”

And while Henry enjoys activities with his fellow residents, he also thinks of the staff as part of his Upper Moreland family. “The employees are all very friendly, and you get to know and love them.”

For our part, we at Wesley Enhanced Living Upper Moreland consider Henry a very special part of our family, and we’re glad he feels the same!
