After cold months indoors, there’s no better way to shake off the winter blues than to spend more time enjoying the sunshine. The following senior-friendly activities will brighten moods and welcome positive changes.

Go For a Nature Walk

It can be relaxing to breathe in the spring air, feel the gentle breeze, and listen to the birds chirping. Early morning or late afternoon is an excellent time to enjoy a peaceful stroll, as the sun’s rays tend to be less glaring. Be sure to wear sunscreen and sunglasses to stay comfortable.

Watch The Birds

Birdwatching is a great hobby for seniors because it does not require physical activity to participate. Even though this is an activity gentle on the body, birdwatching provides cognitive stimulation in alertness and memory recall. It requires stillness and keen observation to spot the birds, classify them, and compare their differences.

Have a Picnic

Brunch hours are an excellent time to sit in the shade and enjoy a refreshing beverage with a good meal. Head to a shaded area with seats and a table, such as a patio area, to easily set items down. Pack easy-to-transport foods, such as sandwiches and whole fruit, and invite someone to share a meal. Picnics are an opportunity to bond with a friend or family member.

Get Gardening

According to the Better Health Channel, gardening reduces stress, is a form of exercise, and improves overall strength and endurance. If gardening is unfamiliar, join one of the garden clubs at a Wesley Enhanced Living community to learn from others. It’s satisfying to watch greenery thrive from thoughtful nurturing.
