At Wesley Enhanced Living, we believe every resident has a story worth celebrating! This month, we recognize Janet C., one of our beloved Doylestown residents who recently turned 100. We are proud to celebrate this huge milestone with her, her family, and the friends she’s made in our community!

Janet and her late husband, whom she describes as the most influential person in her life, were happily married for 75 years and were high school sweethearts! They grew up together, attended both junior and senior proms together, and maintained their strong bond while she was away at college, and while he was enlisted in the US Air Force.

Being a military wife gave Janet the opportunity to travel around and experience different cultures and lifestyles. But her favorite time of life was when her husband finally retired from the Air Force, and they were able to settle into their massive ranch in Florida for 20 years.

When Janet first made the move to Wesley Enhanced Living Doylestown, she was hesitant to leave her beautiful ranch in Florida to come up north where it is colder. But she reasoned: “‘In Florida, you stay inside when it’s too hot, and up here, you stay inside when it’s too cold!” And now she is happy that she made the big move. She loves having the opportunity to socialize with people, getting to know everyone in the community and their stories. She also enjoys activities in the community that help her stay active and exercise. Another bonus from moving up here is that she gets to see her family more, as they come to visit her frequently!

One of Janet’s favorite memories at Wesley Enhanced Living Doylestown was her 95th birthday celebration. Though she had always insisted that she didn’t need any fanfare, the community came together to throw a huge party in her honor. For Janet, it really cemented within her a strong sense of community and belonging.  And now she cherishes her neighbors and the staff at Wesley Enhanced Living for showing up to commemorate her latest milestone.

Janet believes that the secret to living to 100 is: everything in moderation! She further attributes her good health to never being a smoker or drinker. And the most important lesson that life has taught her, she says is to “take what you get and make the most of it!”

For those considering moving to a senior living community, Janet offers her advice: “If you’re willing to come, adjust, and persevere, you’ll make it and be happy here.” At 100 years young, Janet continues to motivate those around her with her wisdom, humor, and optimistic view on life. Her story shows us the power of positivity, living life with balance, and making the most out of every situation. Residents like Janet remind us that life at every stage is worth celebrating!
