The pandemic may make it harder to find the perfect position. You may be tempted to take the first job offer, which may not be a wrong decision, but it may not be the best one. We all want to love what we do and where we work. Moving to a new company may seem like the best decision until you get there and learn differently. How do you tell if a company is right for you before you take that new job?

Finding the perfect company before you make the leap is possible. Some subtle ways indicate the quality of the company. Once you know that the continuing care retirement community is right for you, you will have the confidence to move forward and be successful.

Is this the Right Employer for You?

It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of being chosen for a new position. How do you decide whether the offer you have been extended is the one you should take? Consider these 5 ways to ensure that you make the right decision:

  1. Look Closer at the Job Description: A cursory read of a job description may seem like a good fit. It pays to step back and look a little closer. Do you see anything in the description that benefits you and your career? Does it only list out a litany of skills you must have but says nothing about professional growth opportunities? A thoughtful company will also indicate things like their culture and some perks and benefits.
  2. Think About How They Communicate with You: Do they reply in a reasonable amount of time, or do you have to initiate communication? All communication should be professional, but it doesn’t have to be stiff. A little personalization is helpful since it indicates that you are being regarded as an individual, not just another applicant. However, getting an email full of emojis may indicate a lack of professionalism!
  3. Look at the Company’s Purpose or Mission Statement: As you research this new company, look at its mission statement. Does it resonate with you? Can you connect with it?
  4. Remember the Interview Process Goes Both Ways: Keep in mind that you are on the spot during the interview, and so is the company. Pay attention to what is happening as you answer questions. Does the interviewer seem interested in your answer? Do they make you feel comfortable?
  5. Consider How They Answer Your Questions: At the end of almost every interview will be your chance to ask questions. Please take full advantage of it. Ask questions that require a solid answer, such as, “How has leadership handled communication of changes during the pandemic?” This gives you a better picture of how the company handles aspects vital to you.
