The ServeWEL Scholarship Program began in 2006 when Joe Wiseman, an active and popular resident of Wesley Enhanced Living Upper Moreland, proposed the idea of a scholarship program as an effective tool for the retention of our college-bound employees. Joe was impressed by the determination, intelligence, and desire of our Dining Servers to continue their employment at our community while making their way through college. He saw the scholarship program as a way to encourage our student employees to return to us throughout college, while also assisting them with the expenses incurred in pursuit of higher education.
Through Joe’s efforts, he was able to garner support from other residents and Wesley Enhanced Living’s Corporate and Community Leadership. Our amazing residents at Wesley Enhanced Living Upper Moreland honor Joe’s memory by continuing to support this program. Now in its thirteenth year, the ServeWEL Scholarship Program has awarded over $90,000 in scholarship monies to our dedicated student employees. These funds are a combination of direct resident donations (about 65%) and fundraisers held throughout the community such as: Casino Night, a Graduation Carnival, and Bake/Hoagie sales.
The 2019 ServeWEL Scholarship recipients are Kyle M., Christopher D., Amber K., Julianna M., Nicholas M., Angelina E., Rebecca A., and Hannah S.
